Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register a basketball player or cheerleader?
All registrations are completed and paid for through the Upward Sports online registration system. See the homepage.
When and why should I register early? What's the cost?
Early registration begins September 1 with a $10 savings per player. Regular (full-price) for registration begins November 1 each year. Early registration for basketball is $80 and $90 for cheerleading. Payments must be received by Oct 31, to ensure the early registration discount. Basketball shorts or cheer turtleneck are $15 extra.
What are the Evaluation Nights?
All participants who have registered in our basketball or cheerleading leagues must attend an Evaluations Night November 11, 12, & 14 at 6:30-8:00PM at First Church of the Nazarene, 2501 Broad Ave., Findlay, OH 45840. Each player will be given various activities and drills and their performance will be recorded. During the evaluation, all parents will be directed to a brief informational meeting to receive pertinent information. After ALL participants have been evaluated we can draft teams. Below is a recommended date to attend:
1st Grade Boys and Girls Mon, Nov 11
2nd Grade Boys and Girls Tues, Nov 12
3rd Boys and 3rd/4th Grade Girls Thu, Nov 14
Who will be my child's coach?
Coaches should be contacting each family to introduce themselves in late December or early January at the latest. At this time you will find out your team name, practice times, etc. Sometimes we are still pairing coaches with newly formed teams in the final weeks leading up to the first team orientation meeting. Visit our coaches page for more info.
When does the league start?
For Orientation Day, basketball players are to meet at their game and practice facility (9:00am at First Naz or 8:30am at Parkview Church), which is in early January. All cheerleaders will meet at the Naz at 10:45am. You will meet the coach and other members of your team. Orientation includes a large all-teams meeting, your first team meeting or "practice" with a few skills drills. Also, uniforms, player kits, and picture order forms will be distributed. This is a very important day so attendance is mandatory.
What dates/times are my child's games?
Games schedules will be updated on our games page in January. Any updates or cancellations will also be posted on this website and our Facebook page.
When are games and practices?
Games are always on Saturdays. Times will vary. Practices are on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday at 5:30, 6:30 or 7:30pm. Coaches will mark which time is preferred on their registration form and we will try to accommodate as best as we can. Remember we have to keep teams as fair as possible.
Can a player sign-up to be on a friend's team?
Yes, if both players mark each other on their registration. For example, if Johnny marks Tommy, but Tommy marks Bobby, and Bobby marks Tommy in return, then Johnny will not get his preferred friend. Teams are drafted to be fair. So, if by chance that two players both score 100% at Evaluations Night, they will probably not be drafted onto the same team.
May players switch teams?
Drafting teams is completed with a software program that calculates coach links, carpool links, player evaluation scores, and practice night exclusions. We cannot accommodate all requests that we receive and still maintain our commitment to fair teams.
How do carpool links work?
Carpool links are mutually exclusive. That means that player A can link up with one other player B and that other player B must link with player A. At time of registration or on Evaluation Night, both players must register their preferred carpool link with each another. Players must be in the same league division and same gender.
Can I pay the registration fee in-person?
Yes, when you register your player online at our website, you can choose the "Pay in Person" option. Personal checks can be dropped off to our office (door 2) or mailed to 2501 Broad Ave, Findlay, OH 45840. Checks must be written to "Findlay Upward Sports."
May uniforms be exchanged?
Uniforms can only be exchanged on Orientation Day, upon receiving and trying on the uniform contained in the player box.
May basketball shorts or cheer turtlenecks be ordered?
Yes, if orders are submitted to the league administrator by early January. Cost is $15 per item.
What if my child needs to miss a practice or game?
Please, contact your coach as soon as you know your child cannot attend a practice or game. Ask your coach what method of communication they prefer to receive for absences, whether email, phone, and/or text message.
What is Awards Night?
This is our big event to celebrate our season, recognize players for their efforts, hear an entertaining gospel message, and hand out a special gift to each player. The event will be held wherever your child plays.
